We believe that our clients should share in the growth of well-managed businesses that are attractively valued.
This can mean taking an equity interest as a shareholder or taking a creditor’s position as a bondholder.
Equities
Our strategy seeks to outperform the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index by investing in leading companies in growing industries.
A stock selection advantage can be gained by identifying the dominant themes shaping industry and commerce and identifying stocks that are likely to benefit from those themes.
Although we recognize that the equity market tends to be efficient over time, it is possible to gain an advantage through disciplined stock selection and portfolio construction.
We seek to identify companies and/or municipalities with predictable cash flows and/or substantial assets to back their indebtedness.
We are willing to accept limited, manageable credit risk. We shun interest rate risk, however, preferring not to project the future direction of interest rates.
Asset Allocation
The mix of equities and bonds is determined when we initially assess and then periodically review our clients’ goals.
Once appropriate asset allocation ranges are established, the exact mix at any point in time will be based on our perception of the current relative attractiveness of each asset class.
