"Macro level risks are rising, in our opinion, as the structural issues affecting the financial positions of the U.S. and European Union, chiefly entitlements and deficit spending, remain outstanding.  Meaningful tax reform and a reduction in burdensome regulations, while unlikely, would also be welcome.  Stimulative monetary policies and business momentum may keep the music playing in 2012, but a more conservative investment posture seems warranted.

   ... Equities appear more attractive than bonds, and our research universe presently holds many companies with good growth prospects and reasonable valuations. Nevertheless, if the aforementioned macro level issues are not addressed as the year progresses, we may gradually reduce the weightings of common stocks in our clients’ portfolios.  As always, equity investments are made based upon long term trends that we believe will disproportionately benefit specific industries and companies."
